What CLIAS Needs
To achieve our vision of being Canada's authority on information assurance and
security research, training, and technology transfer, CLIAS needs:
Exceptional researchers with international reputations and a track
record in
cryptography, quantum information science, and integrated
microsystems
technologies.
Commitment to recruit a computer security chair. General Dynamics
Canada has already agreed to support an industrial research chair in
quantum cryptography.
Commitment for a joint faculty appointment between CISaC and IQIS.
The focus
of this appointment will be on classical defenses against
quantum attacks.
National and international research and training based collaborations
with
industry, academia and government organizations.
Training programs for undergraduates, graduates and professionals in
quantum
information science, cryptography and security.
Key infrastructure including:
- A high speed, large-scale, parallel computer system used to test and
benchmark cryptographic algorithms.
-
Ongoing development of a quantum key distribution test-bed.
- The ATIPS laboratory Cluster, which provides design and testing
facilities
for the development of VLSI and Secure System-on-Chip
hardware/firmware
implementations. This cluster includes the
Advanced Microsystems Integration
Facility, which has a clean room
facility.
An ambitious vision to leverage the above into technology transfer and
commercialization opportunities with our partners.
Future Investment
Planned and proposed investments to achieve the CLIAS vision include:
Recruitment in the areas of applied cryptography, and classical
cryptography
and quantum attacks.
Space to establish a presence for CLIAS and host related research
and
development activity.
Funding to support continued:
- IP development through seed funding;
- Research and development opportunities;
- Information dissemination activities;
- Infrastructure; and,
- Collaborations.
Growing the student complement.
Developing key training opportunities.
Enhancing the commitment to knowledge and technology transfer
activities.
Developing partnerships and collaborations that work toward common
goals.
Creating opportunities to access the expertise between the partners.
