I've sold hundreds of sets of plans for my boats to builders all over the world. My boats have been built in Norway, England, Holland, Greece, Italy, Japan, India, China, Germany, Sweden, Canada, Africa and of course the United States. I'm sure there are more that I don't remember at the moment. I have had boats built for expeditions, movies and best of all pleasure.

However I rarely get any feedback from builders (I assume they're too busy paddling). Occasionally someone will drop me a line and sometimes they even send photos (I wish they'd send more). When they do, it usually reads something like what Joe wrote last week.

Hey Grant,

I just finished building one of your canoes, and I am very pleased with the outcome! I just wanted to thank you for taking the time to design this and making the plans available at a very reasonable price. As far as I'm concerned, this is the best stitch and glue canoe design out there, period. I've included a few pics for you. As you can see, I decided to do a bright finish inside and out, because I was pleased with the look of the 3mm luan I bought on both surfaces ($10 a sheet) and I wasn't too worried about the outter seam. I used douglas fir for the gunnels and piece of poplar for the breast hooks that I got for $3. I used high quality epoxy resin and good spar varnish, which added a bit to the cost, but the total price was still pretty cheap (about $300 US). The total weight is 30.5 lbs!

I've got the boat set up as a double paddle canoe, which is very fast and efficient. The boat also handled very well as tandem with me (160 lbs) and my wife (100 lbs). I had about 7 inches of freeboard with both of us, so I'm guessing the total capacity is at least 350 lbs.

Thanks again. I wish you the best luck with your future endevors as a boat designer/builder. Feel free to post the pics if you'd like. It would be cool to see what other people have done with your design. Take care.

-Joe
