Spending some time on the water in a wooden boat is a joy that everyone should
experience.
It's even better when you are in a craft that you built yourself.
While they do have their place, store bought plastic or fiberglass boats just
can't compare.
I have several different boats and canoes but when I'm using one of them or
have one on the car,
the stitch and glue plywood boats are the only ones that get noticed.
Every time I take one out I get friendly comments and questions about it.
Something about the warmth and color of the wood makes small wooden boats real
head-turners.
There are many different methods to build a wooden boat (such as cedar strip
and plank on frame), but the stitch and
glue or tack and tape method is by far the easiest, fastest, cheapest and in
most cases lightest method of boat building.
Stitch and glue, using the proper modern materials produces a very strong boat
that will stand up to years of use with a minimum of maintenance. The complete
encapsulation of the plywood
in resin means that marine plywood is not always necessary when building. I've
built boats from mahogany plywood, fir plywood and even door skins.
All of the boats on these pages were designed and built by myself. All were
built as economically as possible and most cost less than $200 Canadian to
build.
If you are looking for an inexpensive, enjoyable project that will reward you
and your family for years to come, you are at the right place.
